How we score
Overall score is a weighted mean of five sub-scores (0–10):
- GPS (25%) — dual-frequency / multi-band claims and independent track accuracy consensus
- Battery (20%) — maker GPS-mode hours and real-world drain consensus
- Training (25%) — workouts, coaching, recovery/HRV, multisport depth
- Build (15%) — materials, screen, durability, useful extras
- Value (15%) — capability versus typical street/MSRP
Smart rings, bands and sensors use a different scale
Devices in our smart rings & fitness bands section (rings, screenless recovery bands, fitness bands, heart rate straps and footpods) have no GPS job to judge, so they get their own five sub-scores. Their overall numbers are not comparable with watch scores:
- Sensor accuracy (30%) — heart rate, HRV and sleep-staging accuracy as reported by independent reviewers
- Battery (15%) — maker claims and real-world reports
- Recovery & sleep insights (25%) — readiness, strain, sleep coaching and how useful the app makes the data (low for pure sensors such as chest straps)
- Comfort / build (15%) — fit for 24/7 wear, materials, durability
- Value (15%) — price versus capability; a required subscription or membership counts against value
Reviews and sources
We do not claim hands-on lab testing. Outside reviews (DC Rainmaker, the5krunner, and others) inform scores only when we could verify the URL. Specs come from manufacturer pages where possible.
